UCL: Frattesi scores winner as Inter edge Bayern Munich to take first-leg advantage

Davide Frattesi scored a late winner to lead Inter Milan to a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash at Allianz Arena on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.

Frattesi found the back of the net in the 88th minute as the Nerazzurri claimed a first-leg advantage against the Germans, who were left to rue their missed chances.

French winger Michael Olise caused a lot of problems for Inter in the opening period, with goalkeeper Yan Sommer denying him the opener in the 22nd minute.

Bayern should have taken the lead four minutes later, but Harry Kane uncharacteristically failed to hit the target. After being played in by Olise, the English forward, left unmarked, could only hit the outside of the upright.

Inter, however, broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through a brilliant finish from captain Lautaro Martinez. The Argentine latched onto a flick from Marcus Thuram before finding the back of the net with an outside-of-the-foot finish.

Martinez almost doubled Inter’s lead 11 minutes into the second half, but his strike was well dealt with by goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.

Bayern, meanwhile, drew level in the 85th minute through Thomas Muller, who replaced Leroy Sane 11 minutes prior. Muller, who will be leaving the Bavarian club at the end of the season, tapped the ball home from close range following a cross from Konrad Laimer.

Inter, however, will not be denied a win, as Frattesi restored their lead two minutes from regulation time. The Italy international finished off a sweeping team move with a close-range tap-in from a Carlos Augusto cross.

Simone Inzaghi’s side have now won five consecutive Champions League matches, and they head back to Italy with a well-deserved lead.

Bayern, on the other hand, lost a Champions League home game for the first time since April 2021 as their 22-game unbeaten record at home came to an end.

The two sides will face off in the reverse fixture at the San Siro on Wednesday, 16 April.
