Girona sign Ter Stegen on loan from Catalan rivals Barcelona

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has joined Girona on loan from Catalan rivals Barcelona for the rest of the season, Afrosport reports.

The German goalkeeper has fallen in the pecking order behind Joan Garcia, who was signed from another Catalan rival, Espanyol, last summer, and Wojciech Szczesny, who came out of retirement two years ago.

Ter Stegen was unable to secure a permanent move to a bigger club and had to settle for a temporary deal at Girona to strengthen his chances of making the Germany squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, the United States and Mexico this summer.

He joined Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014 and has played 423 times for the club, keeping 176 clean sheets.

He won six La Liga titles, six Copa del Rey titles, one Champions League title, five Spanish Super Cup titles, one UEFA Super Cup, and an Intercontinental Cup.
