U23 AFCON: CAF dismiss NFF’s complaint about Guinea

Report: Super Eagles bow to Guinea-Bissau in AFCON 2023 qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board have dismissed the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) complaints over Guinea U-23 fielding an over-aged player during their U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in March.

The Guineans were triumphant with a 2-0 aggregate score after a goalless first leg in Abuja, ending the Eagles’ hopes of making it to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The NFF filed a complaint to CAF alleging that Guinea’s Alseny Soumah falsified his age and was therefore not eligible to play the qualifying match.

CAF has reviewed the necessary documents and saw no infraction from Guinea.

“After reviewing all documents and listening to the complaint, the CAF Disciplinary Board dismissed Nigeria’s complaint as there was no irregularity regarding the participation of the player,” read a statement on the CAF website.

Guinea will now go ahead to participate at the U-23 AFCON in Morocco next month and they have been paired in Group A alongside Ghana, Congo and Guinea with sights set on qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
