Senegal were denied a perfect winning run in the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup after losing 2-0 to Japan in their final Group D game in Bandung on Friday morning.
The Young Teranga Lions had booked their place in the Round of 16 after recording 2-1 and 4-1 wins over Argentina and Poland respectively.
Friday’s clash against the Japanese was therefore an opportunity to secure a sweep of group stage victories but the West African giants were denied when Rento Takaoka opened proceedings in the 62nd minute before the 16-year old completed his brace 10 minutes later.
The result sees Senegal finish in second place tied on six points with Argentina who trashed Poland 4-0 in the other simultaneous Group D match.

Japan finished in third place also with six points but will have to wait to know their fate if they get to qualify as one of the best four third-placed teams.
Poland finished bottom with no points on board.
Other games in the day will see simultaneous action in Group C between England and Brazil as well as Iran and New Caledonia.
