Senegal are arguably the most dominant country in African football today and their success has been as a result of proper internal administration and management off the pitch as a catalyst for their lofty achievements on it.
Having stamped their authority at the Africa Cup of Nations, Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations, U-20 AFCON and the African Nations Championships, the young Teranga Cubs will look to pick up the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations title in Algeria to complete what would be a clean sweep of titles.
Senegal’s first appearance in the U-17 African tournament was in 2011 and they finished third. They also came third in the 2019 edition.
The West Africans also made their first appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2019 in Brazil after Guinea was disqualified for fielding two over-age players.
It was an impressive debut outing for Senegal as they went as far as the last-16 stage.
On the strength of the successes of their senior team and the exploits of their domestic players at CHAN and U20 AFCON, the young Teranga Cubs led by Saliou Serigne Dia will have enough inspiration to rule their age mates in Algeria.
