Super Eagles, Morocco, Senegal, Ivory Coast drop in latest FIFA ranking

2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Super Eagles apologise to Nigerians after defeat to Benin

The Super Eagles of Nigeria as well as host of African giants have all dropped in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Thursday.

The Eagles have fallen one place to 39th after failing to win any game in last month’s 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against South Africa and Benin. They however remain fifth in Africa.

The continent’s top ranked side Morocco have fallen two places globally to 14th while second-ranked Senegal dropped one place to 19th globally.

Reigning African champions Ivory Coast also dropped one place to 38th, likewise Algeria (44th to 46th), Cameroon (49th to 51st) and Mali (50th to 53rd).

South Africa were the only side to make a jump globally within the African top 10 from 59th to 57th.

Seven-time African champions Egypt are the only side not to move, staying put in 36th globally along with Tunisia in 41st.

The next FIFA ranking will be released on September 19th when all African teams will have taken part in the first round of Group fixtures in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
