Spanish court to punish fans for abusing Real Madrid’s Vinicius

Lagos Marathon: Volunteers begin training

A Spanish High Council for Sport (CSD) revealed that more than 10 Real Valladolid fans will be punished for their part in racially abusing Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr. during their La Liga clash last December.

Many Valladolid fans were seen hurling abuse at the Brazilian during Los Blancos’ 2-0 win at the Jose Zorilla Stadium, causing the league’s controlling body to file a complaint with the local authorities.

The CSD released a statement saying “its commission’s act against violence, racism, and xenophobia in sport has initiated proceedings for the proposed punishment of more than 10 supporters over the incidents.”

The statement also revealed that the local police are collating data and making their findings before handing out sanctions, which could range from fines of €4,000 (around $4,300) and a one-year ban from sports stadiums, or both, to the respective offenders.

In an effort to completely eradicate racial and xenophobic abuses from their league, La Liga filed a complaint about the offenders with the police and also supplied video and audio recordings acquired from the stadium as evidence.

Additionally, the commission met again on Monday to discuss another incident involving the 22-year-old Brazilian.

The most recent instance of Vinicius receiving criticism from rival supporters was during their Copa Del Rey game against Atletico Madrid.

The Colchoneros fans hung a mannequin dressed in the Madrid player’s kit near the Real Madrid training ground before their Copa del Rey quarterfinal against local rivals Atletico with a message reading “Madrid hates Real.”

According to the CSD, police have started an investigation to pin down the perpetrators of the “inappropriate conduct” using data from traffic cameras and social media photographs.
