Shaw signs new Manchester United contract

Luke Shaw has penned a new contract extension that will see him remain at Manchester United until 2027.

The 27-year-old joined the club in 2014 and has made 249 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils as a left-back, including 36 outings this season where he has been a vital part of Erik ten Hag’s squad, scoring one goal and providing six assists.

Shaw’s contract was set to expire at the end of the current season but was extended by one year due to an existing clause in the contract.

The former Southampton player stated he is happy to extend his stay at Old Trafford and wants to be part of the rebuilding project under Ten Hag.

“Nine years ago, I signed for this amazing club, and I’m thrilled to be extending my stay. I’ve grown immensely since coming to Manchester all those years ago, both as a person and as a player; I know what is needed to succeed at a club like this,” the England international said on the club website.

“We’re at the beginning of our journey under the manager and his coaching staff. We’ve been successful already this season, but we want much more. There’s a great opportunity to create something special here, and I’m going to give everything to be part of that.”

Shaw will be expected to make his landmark 250th appearance when Man Utd tackle Brentford at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

The Red Devils are fresh off a 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United on Sunday which dropped them out of the top-four. It was also the third consecutive league game they failed to score.
