NBA: Mavericks, Pistons to play regular-season game in Mexico City

The NBA will play a regular season game in Mexico City next season as the Dallas Mavericks will face the Detroit Pistons on Saturday, 1 November 2025, Afrosport reports.

The game, which will take place at the Arena CDMX, will mark the 34th NBA game in Mexico since 1992 – the most played in any place outside the United States and Canada – and coincide with the Dia de Muertos celebration in Mexico.

The Mavericks will be playing their eighth game in Mexico City and will parade proven NBA stars like Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson. Dallas could potentially head to Mexico with Duke star Cooper Flagg, the projected No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

“We take significant pride in the fact that the Mavericks organization and our supporters reflect the increased globalization of basketball and the NBA,” Mavericks CEO Rick Welts said. “The vibrancy of Mexico City and the passion of its fans make it the perfect place to host these Global Games.”

Detroit, meanwhile, will be playing their third game in Mexico, having made the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2016. They will parade 2025 NBA All-Star Cade Cunningham as well as emerging stars like Jalen Duren, Ausar Thompson and Jaden Ivy.

“The Detroit Pistons organization is excited to be participating in The NBA Mexico City Game 2025 next season,” said Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon in a release. “Playing a regular-season game in Mexico City will be a great experience for our players and coaches, and we look forward to showcasing Detroit Basketball to an international audience and a passionate, growing NBA fanbase.”

The Mavericks finished 10th in the Western Conference in the 2024-25 regular season and were beaten by the Memphis Grizzlies in the Play-in tournament, while the Pistons, who finished sixth in the Eastern Conference, were eliminated by the New York Knicks in the first round.
