Serie A Roundup: Milan held in six-goal thriller at Cagliari; Juventus win Turin derby

AC Milan was left frustrated as they were held to a 3-3 draw by Cagliari at Sardegna Arena in a matchday 12 encounter in the Serie A on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

The hosts got off to a flying start as Nadir Zortea gave them the lead inside the first two minutes off a pass from Sebastiano Luperto.

However, Rafael Leao, who made a return to the starting XI since October 6, got the visitors back on level terms in the 15th minute. The Portugal international latched on to a Tijjani Reijnders pass and delicately lobbed the ball past goalkeeper Alen Sherri.

Leao completed the turnaround for Milan with his second goal of the game after being teed up by France midfielder Youssouf Fofana with five minutes remaining in the first half.

After the break, Cagliari raised the tempo and were duly rewarded with an equaliser in the 53rd minute. Gabriele Zappa capitalised on a defensive blunder from Fofana, wasting no time as he found the back of the net.

Milan regained the lead in the 69th minute through substitute Tammy Abraham as the English-Nigerian forward, who had been on the pitch for just three minutes, reacted fastest to tap in a rebound after the Cagliari goalkeeper spilled an initial effort from Christian Pulisic.

The home side, however, fought back and levelled the game for the second time with Zappa completing his brace in the 89th minute, breaking the hearts of the Rossoneri supporters as his sublime volley flew in past Mike Maignan.

The fulltime whistle was met with different expressions as Milan dropped points yet again this season in Serie A as they remained seventh with 18 points, while hosts Cagliari recorded their fourth draw of the season to move into 16th.

In Saturday’s other matches in Serie A, Timothy Weah and Kenan Yildiz scored in each half to hand Juventus a 2-0 victory over city rivals Torino in the Turin Derby at the Allianz Stadium.

The Old Lady moved into third place temporarily after amassing 24 points from 12 games, while Torino with 14 points occupied the 11th spot.

Meanwhile, Parma secured a 2-1 comeback victory over Venezia at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium, with goals from Emanuele Valeri and Ange-Yoan Bonny cancelling out a fifth-minute opener from Hans Nicolussi Caviglia for the hosts.
