Serie A: Motta urges Juventus to up their game in pursuit of ending Scudetto drought

Juventus manager Thiago Motta has urged his team to surpass their limits if they are to be Serie A title contenders this season, Afrosport reports.

The Bianconeri are currently unbeaten in the Italian top flight this term but are currently not in top form with just two wins in their last eight games. They have managed to accumulate 18 points which places them in sixth spot on the log.

The Old Lady will be visiting Udinese, whom they have defeated four times in their last six meetings, on Saturday and are directly below them with 16 points.

Juve have not won the Serie A in four years after finishing third last term and seventh the season before.

“Juventus are Italy’s most successful team with 36 league titles, the last won in 2020,” Motta said per BBC Sport.

“We have to do much better to stay high up in the standings, we are still at the beginning and it’s clear that we have to do much better given the results of the last match played (a home draw with Parma).

“No club has won the Scudetto in November. We think about Udinese and we want to improve in all aspects, we must all do more, including myself.

“But if a team deserved more it was ours, I am not the only one saying this, you can see it in the data.”

The Bianconeri have also been poor defensively lately, conceding six goals in their last two games, however, Motta feels the defence is not the only problem as the general gameplay of the team is faulty.

“We must improve collectively, be united and help each other more. We must be aggressive and leave less space between the lines,” he added.

“We must make the best decisions as a team. We can’t let the opponents feel comfortable on the pitch.”

After the Udinese game, Juve will turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League where they travel to Lille next Tuesday.
