Quadri Aruna ousted by Ricardo Walther in WTT Champions Frankfurt Round of 16

Quadri Aruna’s run at the ongoing WTT Champions Frankfurt came to an end on Wednesday as the Nigerian was ousted by Germany’s Ricardo Walther at the Suwag Energie Arena, Afrosport reports.

The world No. 21 is out of the competition in the second round after losing 3-2 to the German, who claimed his first win in four meetings against the Nigerian. Despite winning the first set, Aruna lost 11-9, 6-11, 11-4, 7-11, 10-12 to the world No. 60 Walther.

The 36-year-old, who defeated world No. 8 Tomokazu Harimoto of Japan 3-2 in his opening game, was unable to replicate the magic that helped him clinch his second win at the WTT Champions.

Aruna’s quest to become the first African male player to reach the quarterfinal stage of the WTT Champions continues.

Meanwhile, Walther will now face Anton Kallberg in the quarterfinals, after the Swede stunned World number one Wang Chuqin of China 3-0 in the round of 16.
