Premier League: Salah sets goal involvement record in final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park

Mohamed Salah scored and provided an assist as Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw with Everton in the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, Afrosport reports.

Guinea-Bissau forward Beto put the Toffees ahead in the 11th minute before Salah set up Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister for the equaliser.

The Egyptian superstar scored in the 73rd minute to give Liverpool a 2-1. It took the 32-year-old to 22 goal involvements (13 goals, nine assists) in the 13 games Liverpool have played away from home in the Premier League this season.

It is the most by any player in the history of the top flight, overtaking Andy Cole’s tally of 21 during the 1993-94 season with Newcastle United.


Salah also increased his Premier League tally to 22 goals and 14 assists, putting him three goals clear of Manchester City’s Erling Haaland at the top of the scorers chart. Overall, he has 27 goals and 19 assists in 35 competitive games this term.

Conor Bradley reacting to Salah’s feat said: “I think it was the first touch that made the goal – his first touch was unbelievable for the goal.

“That’s just Mo – he just scores goals, gets assists. He’s a fantastic player and we’re so lucky to have him.”

Liverpool’s hopes were however dashed as defender James Tarkowski made it 2-2 for Everton in the 98th minute to send Goodison Park in raptures.

The game ended on a sour note as Mali midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones were sent off for a second bookable offence towards the conclusion of the game for unsportsman behaviour while Liverpool boss Arne Slot was given a red card from the touchline for the same offence.

The result sees Liverpool lead Arsenal by seven points while Everton are in 15th place, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
