Taiwo Awoniyi has taken to social media to express his joy after Nottingham Forest recorded their first win of the 2023-24 Premier League season in a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United at the City Ground on Friday in which he scored.
The Nigeria international scored in Forest’s season opener against Arsenal last week but it ended in a 2-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium.
Awoniyi opened the scoring against Sheffield in the third minute and it remained 1-0 to Steve Cooper’s side until the 48th minute when the Blades equalised via Gustavo Hamer’s smashing strike.
Forest however regained the lead in the 89th minute with Chris Wood netting the winner.
Awoniyi shared a post on Instagram with a caption that gave thanks to God with Bible references while also thanking Forest fans.
“The end of all arguments is Result and it comes from Yeshua. James 1:17,” read the caption.
“The darker the night, the greater the light.
“Wait, I say on the sovereign one. Psalm 27:14 . Forever the greatest
“Thank you city ground….we keep going
“You REDS”
Awoniyi has now scored in six consecutive Premier League games, stretching back to the tail end of last season and is now the Nigerian player with the longest scoring streak in the English top flight.
