Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has rued his team’s lack of defensive options owing to injuries, Afrosport reports.
Spurs’ back line has been dealt a major this season with five players currently sidelined due to injury including goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, centre-back duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, and most recently Radu Dragusin.
Tottenham have conceded 26 goals due to their absence which has led to inconsistent results that sees them sit in 12th place in the standings ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“[We’ve] not many. We are in a tough spot. We have been for a while. We have been kind of getting through it for quite a while now and keeping our fingers crossed we don’t get any more issues,” the Australian said.
“It is the nature of football and the fixture scheduling we have had, which means we have always been on a fine line of trying to get through.
“It is another test for us, but it is what it is. Whatever we need to deal with, we will deal with and be ready for Sunday.
“I think we have had 10 first team players unavailable for a significant number of games, which is definitely a first for me.”
Postecoglou went on to acknowledge that he might have to look for reinforcements during the January transfer window.
“We have a clearer picture of where we are at. I still think we have to be disciplined [in the transfer market]. It is not just a case of bringing anybody in, but there is certainly a need for us to try to reinforce if we can,” he added.
“Obviously, January is not an easy time to do that but the club is working hard behind the scenes to see what we can do to just help the players we have got at the moment, who are giving everything in every game and dipping into every bit of energy they have to try to get us through.”
Tottenham will begin the new year at home against Newcastle United before facing Liverpool in the EFL Cup semi-finals and Tamworth FC in the FA Cup third round.
