Portugal’s Fernandes admits to struggles at Man Utd this season

Manchester United midfielder and captain Bruno Fernandes has admitted to not being in the best of form this season, as his performances have been far from his usual standards.

Fernandes averages a goal in every three Premier League matches for United, but the former Sporting Lisbon man hasn’t had as much impact as he would like to, with the 20-time English champions enduring a subpar campaign.

The 29-year-old, who is currently on international duty with Portugal, has eight goals and nine assists in 38 matches for the Red Devils, including scoring just four goals in the Premier League, his lowest since he joined the club in January 2020.

“At Manchester United it hasn’t been a successful season individually,” Fernandes stated. “I am perfectly aware that I had the capacity to do more and better, as always.

“But I’m not worried about that at the moment, because what I always say is that my commitment and dedication is always at its maximum, regardless of whether I represent Portugal or Manchester United.

“That’s why I’m calm about it and knowing that the quality of my performances can always improve,” the United No. 8 concluded.

Fernandes will be in action with the Portuguese national team during the international window, where they will face Sweden and Slovenia in friendly matches over the next ten days.

He was instrumental in helping the 2016 European Champions qualify for this summer’s EURO 2024 tournament in Germany, as they finished with maximum points, claiming ten wins in ten games.

United have ten more games in the Premier League, and they are into the semi-finals of the FA Cup after an exhilarating 4-3 win over Liverpool on Sunday, and Fernandes still has the opportunity to improve his performances and help his side finish in the Champions League spot as well as end the season with a silverware.
