2023 African Games: Nigeria and Ghana set for women’s football final showdown

2023 African Games: Falconets bag comfortable win over Morocco

The Nigeria and Ghana women’s U-20 football national team are set to take on each other in the final of the 2023 Africa Games after victories against Uganda and Senegal respectively in the semi-finals.

The Falconets were 2-0 winners over the female Hippos thanks to goals from Adaobi Judith Okah and Chiamaka Okwuchukwu in the 74th and 89th minute respectively.

The Black Princesses meanwhile thumped Senegal 3-1. Tracey Twum put them ahead in the 18th minute before Ophelia Amponsah doubled the lead towards the half time break.

Rokhyatou Kande pulled one back for the Teranga Lionesses from the penalty spot in the 54th minute but it was not enough as Amponsah responded instantly to complete her brace and put the game beyond doubt.

Nigeria and Ghana will now meet for the very first time in final in Accra on Sunday.

The Falconets are the most successful side in the African Games with three gold medals and are the current holders while the Black Princesses claimed gold in 2015 when they defeated Cameroon 1-0 in Brazzaville.
