PL: Rashford ties Salah with February Player of the Month award

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has been voted as the Premier League Player of the Month following his outstanding performances in the month of February.

The Three Lions’ forward equals Mohamed Salah’s record for most Premier League Player of the Month awards with three this season already, with the Egyptian doing so in the 2017/18 season.

The 25-year-old has won the award for the second consecutive month after claiming the honour in January. He beat other top performers, including Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City), Bernd Leno (Fulham), Emerson Royal (Tottenham Hotspur), Manor Solomon (Fulham), and Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa), to the gong.

Rashford was in inspiring form in February, scoring five goals in four matches for the Red Devils as the 20-time English champions went unbeaten all through the month.

He scored in their tie against Crystal Palace, back-to-back games against rivals Leeds United, and a brace in the 3-0 thrashing of Leicester City at Old Trafford.

The United academy graduate becomes the first player to win the honour in consecutive months since Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan did so in January and February 2021.

In winning the award, Rashford, with four in his career, is now three shy of the overall league record held by former City striker Sergio Aguero and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, who are both on seven.

The United No. 10 is presently having the best season of his career with 26 goals and 9 assists, including 14 goals and three assists in 25 league matches.

Likewise, Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag completed the double swoop of accolades for United by winning the Manager of the Month award.

The former Ajax manager, who is in his first season with the English giants, has won the award for the second time in his short career at United, beating Fulham’s Marco Silva and Tottenham manager Antonio Conte.
