Brama Traore has been dismissed from his role as Burkina Faso head coach after their exit from the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Afrosport reports.
The Stallions finished second in Group E behind Algeria before they were thumped 3-0 by Ivory Coast in the first round of the knockout phase.
Traore was appointed in March 2024, replacing Frenchman Hubert Velud after the Burkinabe crashed out of the AFCON 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast also in the round of 16. He however failed to meet the target of reaching at least the semi-finals.
“Following a thorough analysis of Burkina Faso’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, it has been decided to terminate collaboration with the national coach Brama Traore, as well as his entire technical staff,” a statement by the Burkinabe Football Federation said.
“This decision follows results deemed to fall far short of the objectives set for the national team in this major continental competition.
“This poor performance has caused deep disappointment among supporters, stakeholders in national football, and governing bodies.
“As a reminder, the clearly established objective before the start of the 2025 AFCON was to reach at least the semi-finals, in line with the positive momentum and respectable performances achieved by the national team in previous editions.”
Traore is the second coach to be axed from his job following AFCON 2025 elimination after Tunisia’s Sami Trabelsi.
