The Nigerian bounced back from her quarterfinals to defeat former world No. 1 India’s Sarita Mor 6-4 on Tuesday and only made it to the third-place playoff because of the latter’s progress to the final.
Adekuoroye, who became Nigeria’s first wrestler to qualify for the tournament in Paris, ensured she would be participating in her third straight Olympic Games.
Her victory meant the world No. 22 claimed her fourth world championship medal and her third bronze medal, having previously won two bronze medals in 2015 and 2019 and a silver medal in Paris in 2017.
