The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have announced that Otto Addo has been appointed as Black Stars head coach for the second time.
The former Ghana international was previously in charge of the Black Stars during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs where they defeated Nigeria on away goals to reach the finals in Qatar.
Addo led the team in Qatar but narrowly missed out on reaching the knockout phase after finishing bottom in Group H behind Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
He resigned from his role after the World Cup and returned back to Borussia Dortmund where he has been part of the back room staff since 2020.
Addo’s time with Dortmund has now come to an end and will take over from Chris Hughton who oversaw a disappointing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign where Ghana crashed out of the group stage.
“Otto was exceptional in the interview process and was rated highly by the search committee, hence the decision,” GFA president Kurt Edwin Simeon- Okraku said in a statement on X.
“There were some brilliant individuals among the coaches who applied for the job, so the committee took the pain to interview a chunk of them to pick their thoughts on their intentions to transform the team within a short period of time due to our peculiar situation”
“The Commiittee was overly satisfied with Otto’s performance for which reason he was recommended to the Executive Council for approval.”
????The Ghana Football Association has reached an agreement with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund for Otto Addo.
Otto Addo will be offered a 34-month contract with an option for a further 24-months.
