Victor Osimhen rose from the ninth spot in Nigeria’s all-time scoring chart to sixth following his brace against Sierra Leone in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Osimhen scored two first-half goals in the 3-2 victory against the Leone Stars to increase his tally to 17 goals for the Super Eagles.
He occupies the sixth position with Samson Siasia who scored 17 goals in 49 international games for Nigeria and he is now 20 goals behind all-time top scorer, Rashidi Yekini who played for the national team between 1983 and 1998.
After starring for the Nigeria U17 team at the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile, Osimhen made his senior debut for Nigeria in June 2017 against South Africa and he scored his first international goal for the Super Eagles in a 2-2 friendly against Ukraine in September 2019.
Other legends who are ahead of Osimhen in Nigeria’s scoring chart are Obafemi Martins (18 goals), Ikechukwu Uche (19 goals), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (21 goals), Segun Odegbami (22 goals) and Yekini (37 goals).
