Boniface begins rehabilitation as knee surgery ends his season

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has begun rehabilitation in Innsbruck, Austria, following successful knee surgery, Afrosport reports.

After weeks of consultations, the Nigeria international opted for the procedure, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. The surgery addressed a long-standing issue in his right knee that had limited his availability and performance.

Boniface confirmed the start of his structured recovery through a Snapchat video, showing him completing light leg stretches with a physiotherapist and walking with a support device.

The 2025-26 campaign proved challenging for Boniface, who struggled with form and fitness. He failed to score in 11 Bundesliga appearances, registering two assists during his loan spell at Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen before the injury forced him to stop playing.

Despite initial medical advice for immediate surgery, Boniface sought further opinions before making his final decision.

An extended rehabilitation period is expected, with no definitive timeline for his return to competitive football.

Boniface will now focus on a full recovery, aiming to return stronger next season, though injuries have been a recurring concern in his career.
