League leaders Rivers United were held to a 1-1 draw by El-Kanemi Warriors on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium, Port Harcourt, in a matchday nine encounter in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Afrosport reports.
Sama’ila Bello put visiting Warriors ahead in the 30th minute, before Taofeek Otaniyi restored parity for the hosts three minutes later.
Rivers, led by Finidi George, maintained top spot despite the draw, and have now amassed 21 points from nine matches, while El-Kanemi are sixth in the NPFL standings with 13 points .

Elsewhere, Peters Afolayan’s 71st minute effort propelled Heartland to a 1-0 win at the expense of Remo Stars at the Dan Anyiam stadium in Owerri, to hand the Sky Blue Stars their third defeat of the season.
Meanwhile, Enyimba defeated Ikorodu City 2-1 in Aba with Moses Adikwu netting the winner for the hosts. Ifeanyi Ihemekwele put the People’s Elephants in front, while Toheeb Ajeyigbe got the visitors’ equaliser before Adikwu’s winner in the 92nd minute.
In other games, Plateau United thrashed Sunshine Stars 3-0; Shooting Stars defeated Akwa United 2-1; Sunday Megwo scored the only goal as Abia Warriors beat Bendel Insurance at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium; Nasarawa United pipped Kano Pillars 1-0; and Niger Tornadoes also got a 1-1 draw away at Katsina United.
