14-year-old table tennis star, Matthew Kuti has entered the top 200 ranking of the International Table Tennis Federation, occupying the 185th position in the latest standings released on April 30.
After helping Nigeria to win the ITTF West Africa Regional Championships in Togo in April, Kuti climbed 750 spots to his new position in the men’s singles category.
The teenage sensation was a part of the Nigerian contingent that won silver in the table tennis team’s event at the 13th African Games in March.
Kuti defeated Togo’s national table tennis champion, Kokou Fanny and former national national champion of Ivory Coast, Oba Oba Kizito to be crowned champion in the regional tournament in Lome.
Hope Udoka is another big mover for Nigeria in the ranking, becoming the fourth-best ranked Nigeria female player in the world, after Offiong Edem, Fatimo Bello and Tosin Oribamishe.
Udoaka gained 365 steps to be rated 173rd in the global women’s singles category.
At the ITTF regional tourney, Udoaka successfully won the women’s singles title after romping to a 4-0 win against compatriot Ajoke Ojomu.
