Burnley turn attention to 2024-25 season

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is looking ahead to a “positive” 2024-25 season if it will be in the Premier League or Championship.

The Clarets have won admiration for their style of play under Kompany who joined the club from Anderlecht last season and led them to instant Premier League promotion and the Championship title.

Things have however been tougher for Kompany in the top flight with just five wins from 35 games, drawing nine and losing 21, and are currently two points shy of safety in 19th place with three games left to play.

“I know next season is going to be a positive season – if we are in the Premier League it is going to be a positive season and in the worst-case scenario [that Burnley get relegated] it is still going to be a positive season,” Kompany said in a press conference.

“I don’t think the journey of this club is depending on just that decision. But when you have an ambition to be a Premier League team this is too big an opportunity for us to think about anything else.”

The Belgian-Congolese tactician added: “I want every player in the team to believe that individually they can have a moment. [We have] three games, 90 or 95 minutes to play. Every minute offers an opportunity to have a moment that will remain in the club’s history.

“It is so rare in life that you have an opportunity to have a significant moment like this. These guys will have the opportunity in the next three games.

“It starts with the belief yourself that this can be your moment. We will need it spread across the group because we have got three games to cover.”

Burnley host Newcastle United on Saturday before travelling to Tottenham Hotspur and wrapping up the season against fellow relegation battlers Nottingham Forest.
