Nigeria’s Umar Sadiq up for two La Liga awards in March

How Umar Sadiq has increased competition in Valencia’s forward line

Super Eagles forward Umar Sadiq has been nominated for La Liga Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards for March, Afrosport reports.

Sadiq scored three goals in three league appearances for Valencia in the month under review, helping them to one win and two draws.

The 28-year-old scored a brace for Los Che in their 3-3 draw at Osasuna, as well as the winner in their 2-1 home win against Real Valladolid.

Sadiq will battle the likes of Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe, Real Betis midfielder Isco, Celta Vigo defender Marco Alonso and Rayo Vallecano star Pedro Diaz for the Player of the Month award.

The Nigerian striker is also up for the Goal of the Month award with his cheeky backheel goal against Osasuna.

He will need to fend off competition from Rayo Vallecano defender Andrei Ratiu and Leganes forward for the accolade.

Sadiq has scored five goals in eight league appearances since joining Valencia in the January transfer window.
