Nigeria’s golden girl, Tobi Amusan was in the form of her life as she ended the 2022 outdoor season in style by breaking the Meet Record at the Diamond League final in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday evening.
Storming to a record time of 12.29s, Tobi Amusan broke the 22-year record set by Gail Devers.
Running against a highly competitive field, she made light work of the competition by finishing ahead of USA’s 2018 world U20 champion Tia Jones, Jamaica’s world silver medallist Britany Anderson and Puerto Rico’s Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn who finished fourth in 12.49s.
“Everyone has doubted me. I just had to prove myself, that I have got it,” Amusan said.
“I am just so thankful for all of this season. I am full of emotions. Now, vacation, rest and then back to practice.”
With the Paris Olympics coming up in 2024, Amusan will be looking to maintain her record-breaking form and hopefully become an Olympic champion.
For now, “vacation and rest” seem to be the next order of action.
