Newcastle are reportedly looking towards RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in the event Alexander Isak leaves St. James’ Park this summer, Afrosport reports.
The Swedish striker of Eritrean heritage did not travel with the Magpies for their pre-season tour of Asia and has told the club he wants to leave, amid heavy interest from reigning Premier League champions Liverpool.
Eddie Howe’s side will now need to find an alternative option if Isak does leave. They previously had an interest in Hugo Ekitike, who eventually signed for Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt forward in a £79 million deal.
Sesko has now emerged as a possible option for Newcastle as they prepare to play Champions League football in the upcoming 2025-26 season.
The 22-year-old Slovenian striker was previously on the radar of Arsenal, but the Gunners turned their attention to Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres and are on the verge of completing a €73.5 million move.
Sesko has been on the books of Leipzig since 2023, scoring 39 goals in 87 games, including 21 in the previous campaign.
