NBA: Celtics trading Holiday to Portland for Simons, picks

The Boston Celtics are reportedly sending guard Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers for Anfernee Simons and two second-round draft picks, Afrosport reports.

The Trail Blazers are getting Holiday back two years after trading him to the Celtics for Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams III, a 2024 first-round pick and a 2029 first-round draft pick. The deal at the time also saw Damian Lillard traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Holiday was instrumental in helping the Celtics win the NBA Championship in the 2023-24 season, shooting a career-high 42.9% from the 3-point line.

The 35-year-old, heading into his 17th season in the league, brings championship experience to a young Portland side looking to take a massive leap in the new season, having finished with a 36-46 record in the 2024-25 regular season under Hall of Famer and head coach Chauncey Billups.

Simons, who was selected with the 24th overall pick in the 2018 draft, has established himself as a proven scorer over the past four seasons with Portland. He averaged 19.3 points per game in 2024-25 and shot 36.3% from beyond the arc.

The 26-year-old secures a move to Boston on an expiring contract, with the Celtics set to save $40 million in luxury tax payments next season, as Holiday is owed around $72 million in 2026-27 and 2027-28.
