Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland will be sidelined for four to five months after undergoing surgery on Monday to repair a left big toe injury, Afrosport reports.
Cleveland announced that the procedure was performed by Dr. Nicholas Strasser at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, in consultation with team physician Dr. James Rosneck and Dr. Bob Anderson.
The Cavs added that Garland would “resume basketball activities by the start of training camp,” which mostly commences in late September.
Garland first suffered the problem during the latter parts of the regular season, missing just two games. The injury, which was initially ruled as a sprain, returned during the Cavaliers’ first-round playoff series against the Miami Heat and forced him to miss four of their nine games in the postseason.
The Cavaliers lost their Eastern Conference semi-finals series 4-1 and were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers, with the 25-year-old missing Games 1 and 2
