NBA: Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young out for at least four weeks with hand injury

Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young will spend “at least four weeks” out of action after picking up a left-hand injury, the Eastern Conference team announced on Sunday.

The All-Star point guard has reportedly suffered a torn ligament in the fifth finger of his left hand and will undergo surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York on Tuesday.

Young suffered the injury during the Hawks 121-123 home loss to the Toronto Raptors on Friday night and ended the game with 11 points and seven assists in 35 minutes of action.

“You feel awful for Trae more than anything,” Hawks coach Quin Snyder said. “It is going to be a challenge for him not to be out there.”

Young, who made his third All-Star team selection this season, is currently averaging 26.4 points and 10.8 assists per game while shooting 42.6% from the field and 37.1% from the three-point line.

Following the Hawks win over the Orlando Magic in Atlanta on Sunday night, they are currently 3-3 in games without Young this season, and the team said the 25-year-old will be evaluated in about four weeks.
