‘My mum would be proud’ – Luton Town star Adebayo eyes Nigeria switch

Adebayo refuses to take credit for hat-trick in Luton Town win

Luton Town striker Elijah Adebayo has expressed his desire to play for Nigeria on the international scene ahead of England.

Adebayo was born to Nigerian parents in England and he has made a name for himself in the Premier League this season with his goals for Luton.

The 26-year-old is the Hatters’ leading top scorer in the English top-flight with nine goals in 23 matches so far.

Adebayo is yet to be approached by any national team and he revealed his mother’s joy if he ends up donning the iconic green and white jersey of the Super Eagles.

“I would like to play for Nigeria,” Adebayo told The Times. “It would make my mum happy, make her proud. That’s something we’ve spoken about.

“Playing for England? It would be a case of whichever comes first. My mum would be proud if I played for Nigeria or England, but Nigeria especially.”

Adebayo is not the only player of Nigerian descent at Luton Town as he joined by Gabriel Osho, Femi Onyedinma, and Irish international Chiedozie Ogbene in Rob Edwards’ team.
