The Super Falcons of Nigeria wrapped up their preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in style with a convincing 3-1 victory over arch-rivals Ghana’s Black Queens in their final warm-up game played on Sunday in Benslimane, Morocco, Afrosport reports.
Chiwendu Ihezuo, Asisat Oshoala, and Rasheedat Ajibade found the net for Nigeria, while Alice Kusi scored a late consolation for Ghana from the penalty spot.
Ihezuo put the Super Falcons ahead in the 34th minute before Oshoala, recently recalled to the team and a six-time African Women’s Player of the Year, calmly doubled the lead from the spot just before halftime.
Team captain Ajibade made it 3-0 shortly after the break, sealing the win for Justine Madugu’s side. Ghana’s Kusi converted a penalty two minutes from time, but the outcome had long been settled.
The victory comes on the heels of a goalless draw against Portugal and gives the Falcons a timely confidence boost as they now shift full focus to the tournament.
The nine-time African champions are gunning for a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, eager to reaffirm their dominance on the continent. Nigeria are in Group B alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana.
The 2025 WAFCON will be held from July 5 to July 2.
