Mohamed Salah: Liverpool boss Klopp insists Egyptian is not for sale

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has refuted claims that the Merseyside club is entertaining bids for Egypt international Mohamed Salah.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach has insisted that their talismanic forward is “off the market” and is not for sale amid reports of a bid from Saudi Arabia.

“It’s obviously difficult to talk about media stories because there is nothing to talk about from our point of view,” the 56-year-old tactician said. “We don’t have an offer.

“Mo Salah is a Liverpool player. Obviously, for all the things we do [he is] essential, was [and] will be.

“There is nothing there. If there would be something – the answer would be no.”

Salah, who recently became Liverpool’s fifth all-time top scorer, is the subject of a proposed breathtaking bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, who are trying to pry the Egyptian away from Europe with a staggering £65 million yearly salary offer.

The former Roma and Chelsea forward signed a new three-year contract extension with the Anfield outfit in July 2022, which has seen his weekly wages increase to £350,000, thereby making him the club’s highest earner.

Salah and Liverpool have begun the season strongly with a win and a draw in their first two games, in which he has scored once and assisted another. They will travel to St. James’ Park to take on high-flying Newcastle United on Sunday, August 27.
