Middlesbrough forward Chuba Akpom has expressed delight after winning the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Championship Fans Player of the Month award for January.
The 27-year-old Anglo-Nigerian was in top form for Boro, scoring in games against Birmingham City and Watford as the Teeside outside solidified their position in the promotion playoff places and are also seven points behind automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Akpom won 25% of the vote, beating beating fellow Elijah Adebayo of Luton Town, Antoine Semenyo – previously at Bristol City but now at Bournemouth, Norwich City striker Teemu Pukki, Burnley’s Ian Maatsen and Kasey Palmer of Coventry City.
It marks the second time Akpom has won the award this season after bagging it in November. He took to social media to thank the fans for voting which he says is more motivation for him.

Akpom is the leading scorer in the Championship this season with 17 goals in 25 appearances and will be looking to get into the act again when Michael Carrick’s men host Queens Park Rangers at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
