Mbappe becomes PSG’s all-time leading scorer 

French forward Kylian Mbappe achieved monumental greatness in Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 win over Nantes at the Parc des Princes on Saturday.

The 24-year-old became the Paris-based club’s all-time leading goalscorer with his stoppage time strike to help the Ligue 1 leaders secure all available points.

Mbappe has now scored 201 goals for PSG in 247 games, surpassing Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani’s record of 200 goals for the club.

PSG opened the scoring through Argentine World Cup winner Lionel Messi in the 12th minute. The strike was Messi’s 799th career goal and the 1000th goal contribution of his club career.

Christophe Galtier’s team doubled their lead five minutes after the opener through an own goal from French left back Jaouen Hadjam.

However, Nantes pulled one back in the 31st minute thanks to poor goalkeeping from Italian shotstopper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The former AC Milan goalkeeper was unable to keep out Ludovic Blas’ strike. Cameroon’s Ignatius Ganago drew the both sides level seven minutes later with a flick from a corner kick.

The Parisians got back ahead on the hour mark through a thumping header from Portuguese midfielder Danilo Pereira, thanks to an accurate cross from Mbappe.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup golden boot winner further etched his name in PSG’s folklore two minutes after normal regulation time. He received the ball from youngster Timothee Pembele before turning his marker and firing in a brilliant finish past goalkeeper Alban Lafont.

Mbappe, who initially joined the ten-time Ligue 1 champions on a loan deal from Monaco in 2017, before joining permanently a year later, has now scored 137 goals and provided 53 assists in 164 games for them in the league.

The goal took his season tally to 18, three ahead of Arsenal loanee Folarin Balogun on 15 goals. The Parisians maintain top spot in the league standings, eleven points ahead of Marseille in second, while Les Canaris occupy the 13th spot with 28 points.

Mbappe and his PSG teammates will now turn their attention to the UEFA Champions League, where they will kook to turn round a 1-0 deficit against Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Round of 16 clash on Wednesday, March 8.
