Sevilla have appointed former player Matias Almeyda as their new manager on a three-year contract, Afrosport reports.
The 51-year-old Argentine spent one season at Sevilla when he joined from River Plate in 1996, making 30 appearances in all competitions before moving on to play in Italy with Lazio, Parma and Inter Milan.
He joins a Sevilla team that narrowly avoided relegation from La Liga last season after Garcia Pimienta was dismissed in April and Joaquin Caparros was appointed until the end of the campaign.
The Andalusian giants ultimately finished one point shy of the drop zone.
“Sevilla FC has reached an agreement with Matías Almeyda for the Argentine coach to be the new Blanquirrojos coach for the next three seasons, starting in July,” read a statement on the club website.
