Manchester United cut ties with Cristiano Ronaldo

Premier League club Manchester United have decided to part ways with  Cristiano Ronaldo in a statement released by the club on Tuesday evening.

The Red Devils made the decision following Ronaldo’s interview with Talk TV’s Piers Morgan last week.

The club statement read: “Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect. The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future.

“Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch,” the club said.

Ronaldo returned for his second spell at Manchester United in the summer of the 2021/2022 season, but things quickly turned sour this season due to a lack of game time under Erik ten Hag.

The 37-year-old exits Old Trafford with a record of 145 goals in 346 appearances across a seven-year span, winning nine titles including three premier league titles and a UEFA Champions League title.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is currently with Portugal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and he is in line to feature in the Selecao’s opening fixture against Ghana on Thursday.
