French giants Olympique Lyon have been provisionally relegated to Ligue 2 along with a transfer ban due to several financial irregularities, Afrosport reports.
The decision was announced by the French football authority DNCG on Friday, as it was stated that the club “could face demotion as a precautionary measure” after the current 2024-25 season.
However, this decision was triggered by the club’s bad financial state as reports states that the club’s debt rose to €506 million.
Meanwhile, as stated earlier the club’s punishment is double as the were also handed a transfer ban which includes payroll supervision.
Girondins Bordeaux have been victims to this similar incident as they received a relegation to the fourth tier of French football, which would serve as a worry to Lyon.
Les Gones currently sit fifth in the Ligue 1 table.
