Ruben Loftus-Cheek has undergone emergency surgery after suffering acute appendicitis, Afrosport reports.
The former Chelsea midfielder was expected to start for the Rossoneri in the Serie A encounter against Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona but was rushed to the hospital after suffering from abdominal pain while at the team Hotel in Naples.
Milan released a statement that the surgery was successful but his absence was felt as they lost the game 2-1.
“AC Milan can confirm that Ruben Loftus-Cheek underwent laparoscopic appendectomy surgery today due to acute abscessed appendicitis,” read the statement.
“The operation, which was performed by Professor Francesco Corcione and his team, went perfectly to plan.”
It is yet to be seen when Loftus-Cheek will return to action which reports predicting between one to two months which might effectively rule him out for the rest of the season.
The 29-year-old has been limited to just 22 games in all competitions this season due to muscular injuries with Milan sitting a distant ninth in the Serie A standings.
