Ligue 1: Moffi opens season account in OGC Nice victory

Terem Moffi scored his first Ligue 1 goal of the season in OGC Nice’s 2-0 win over Strasbourg at Allianz Riviera on Sunday.

The Nigerian forward moved permanently to the French south Coast this summer after spending the second half of the previous campaign on loan from Lorient. Moffi scored nine goals during his loan stint with Nice and a total of 21 combined goals over the course of the entire season.

He had provided an assist for Gaetan Laborde’s goal in a 1-1 with Lille on the opening day of the season and finally opened his account for the 2023-24 season when he doubled Nice’s lead against Strasbourg in the 75th minute.

Moffi latched on to Jean-Clair Todibo’s long ball and made his run into the box, beating off three Strasbourg players before cooly slotting the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

Algeria full-back Youcef Atal opened the scoring in added time of the first half.

The result was Nice’s first goal of win of the season after earning draws against Lille, Lorient and Lyon.

The Eagles’ next opponent will be Paris Saint-Germain on September 17 after the international break.

The reigning Ligue 1 champions thumped Lyon 4-1 at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday, Franco-Cameroonian star Kylian Mbappe netting a brace while Morocco full-back Achraf Hakimi and former Real Madrid player Marco Asensio scored the remaining.
