Leny Yoro reflects on ‘incredible’ Manchester United debut

Rooney pleased with Muhamed Tijani performance in Plymouth’s pre-season win

Leny Yoro has described his Manchester United debut as “incredible” after helping the Red Devils to a 2-0 pre-season win over Rangers on Saturday.

The 18-year-old, who is of Ivorian heritage, was a recent €62 million acquisition from Lille and was going to draw attention for such a big fee.

Yoro put in a composed performance for the first 45 minutes and praised his teammates for making him feel comfortable on the pitch.

“For me, it was incredible,” he said. “It was a really good game from the team. I’m happy with my performance and I hope we continue like that.”

“Team-mates helped me a lot, the staff, they make me comfortable.

“On the pitch, we are together, so for me, it’s very good.”

Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana wore the captain’s armband on the afternoon in Edinburgh, and believes Yoro showed his talent and quality in the 45 minutes he played.

“That’s why he’s here [he has lots of talent],” Onana said.

“If you want to be a Manchester United player, you must have quality and he’s already shown himself in the first half. He’s a young player, a talented player, good on the ball, so we’re going to enjoy him this season.

“He will [have the temperament], he will, and we’re here to help him. We’re going to give him time, we know he’s going to be alright and we have very good scouts here, so if they made him come, that means he’s got a lot of quality.”

Yoro will be in line to make his official debut when Man United tackle rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10th at Wembley.
