Kwara Utd coach Audu gets two-match ultimatum

The Kwara State Government has given a two-game warning to Kwara United’s technical crew, led by head coach Azeez Audu Mohammed, following their 3-0 defeat to Enyimba FC on Sunday.

The Afonja Warriors are currently winless in the new Nigeria Premier Football League season, with two draws and two losses in four games so far.

The club revealed the news of ultimatum through a post on their social media channel.

It read: “The Technical Crew of Kwara United Football Club has been given a two-match ultimatum to change the fortunes of the Club.”

Mohammed took over the team in August 2022, replacing Abdullahi Usman Biffo following the expiration of the latter’s contract.

Biffo led Kwara United to a fourth place finish in the NPFL last season, subsequently securing a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup.

However, the ilorin-based club are out of the continental competition after being knocked out on aggregate scores by Moroccan side RSB Berkane in the second preliminary round under the tutelage of coach Azeez Mohammed.

The team’s general manager, Bashir Badawiy, revealed that the management of the team is unhappy with the results and can no longer tolerate such mediocrity.

“The team has no excuse not to perform, going by the commitment of the government, the determination of the management, and the sacrifice by the fans, supporters and stakeholders,” he said.

“We are playing in a dangerous League, the abridged league and we cannot tolerate this kind of results.”

“So, they should rather perform or give way,” Badawiy added.

Mohammed broke onto the Nigerian coaching scene in 2020 with Katsina United, helping them secure a place in the NPFL. He also had successful coaching spells in Sudan with about seven clubs, most recently Al Hilal Alfashir between 2018 and 2021.

They are currently in ninth position in Group A of the abridged NPFL with just two points from four games, and the 45-year-old tactician will hope his luck turns for the better when his side face the high-flying Akwa United at the Kwara State Stadium on Wednesday.
