Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyonyi was in inspired form at the Monaco Diamond League on Friday, dominating the rest of the field to win the men’s 800-metre event, Afrosport reports.
Wanyonyi, 20, led the race from start to finish at Stade Louis II before crossing the line in a world leading time of 1:41.44, the 10th fastest time in history.
Trailing the Paris Olympic gold medallist was World Indoor Champion Josh Hoey of the United States, who ran a new personal best of 1:42.01, and Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati, who settled for third in 1:42.20.

Meanwhile, Wanyonyi’s compatriot, Nelly Chepchirchir, won the women’s 1000m in Monaco.
The 22-year-old Kenyan emerged victorious in a personal best of 2:39.77, becoming the fourth fastest woman over 1000m at the Monaco Diamond League.
American Addy Wiley was second in a National Record of 2:30.71, while Australia’s Jessica Hull came third in an Oceania Record of 2:30.96.
