Ivory Coast’s Ndicka collapses during Serie A game

Ivory Coast defender Evan Ndicka was rushed to the hospital after collapsing during a Serie A match between Roma and Udinese on Sunday.

Ndicka fell on the pitch without contact in the 72nd minute, with the encounter tied at 1-1 in the Bluenergy Stadium.

The match was suspended after the centre-back was stetchered off by medical personnel even though he regained consciousness.

Ndicka has played the majority of Roma’s matches this season with 20 appearances in the Serie A so far.

The 24-year-old left-back was also part of the victorious Ivory Coast squad that won the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in February.

Authorities of the Italian Serie A will announce a new date for the continuation of the game with Roma set to host AC Milan for the return leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final game on Thursday.

Later on Sunday, Roma confirmed that Ndicka has been in stable condition and he is responding to treatment well in the hospital.

“Following the on-field medical emergency involving Evan Ndicka, the match between Udinese and Roma has been suspended. The player is conscious and has been taken to hospital for further checks. Forza Evan, we are all with you.” the club statement read.
