Invictus Games: Prince Harry plays sitting volleyball with wounded Nigerian soldiers

The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry promoted the Invictus Games in Nigeria on Saturday, May 11 by playing a sitting volleyball exhibition game with injured soldiers in Abuja.

Prince Harry – in company of his spouse, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan – arrived Nigeria on Friday at the invitation of the country’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa.

Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in March 2014 after watching the British military compete at the US-formed Warriors Games in 2013, for injured and ill service personnel and veterans.

Nigeria became the first African country to participate at the Invictus Games after making their debut appearance in the 2023 edition in Germany.

Upon arrival at the West African country on Friday, Prince Harry made a solo trip Kaduna State where he was hosted by Governor Sani Uba before visiting Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna on Saturday, the royal couple were in the country’s capital Abuja to engage with top government officials, wounded soldiers as well as widows and families of departed soldiers.

On Sunday which is the final day of their visit, they visited Lagos aboard an Air Peace flight and they participated in a basketball exhibition match organised by a local NGO, Giants of Africa.

The eventful royal visit to Nigeria is expected to end of Sunday with a polo fundraising event at the Lagos Polo Country Club, Ikoyi.
