Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer has suffered a fracture to his right thumb, the Italian club revealed on Thursday.
The Serie A champions did not reveal the extent or duration of the injury, but the Swiss goalkeeper is expected to miss this weekend’s home game against Genoa.
“Yann Sommer underwent medical tests this morning at the Istituto Humanitas di Rozzano which revealed a fracture to his right thumb,” a statement on the club website read.
“The necessary therapy will be decided in the coming days.”

Sommer was in goal last Sunday in Inter’s 1-0 loss at Juventus as the Nerazzurri missed the opportunity to overtake Napoli atop the Serie A standings.
The 36-year-old leads the Italian top flight in clean sheets with 11 shutouts in 25 league matches this campaign.
Inter Milan, second in the Serie A with 54 points, two behind leaders Napoli, will rely on second-choice goalkeeper Josep Martinez, who joined the club last summer.
The Spaniard has played once for the team, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 win against Udinese in the Coppa Italia in December.
Simone Inzaghi’s side will take on Genoa at the San Siro on Saturday, battle Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals next Tuesday, and then have a crucial title decider at Napoli on 2 March.
