The Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT) has confirmed the expulsion of Red Star Belgrade midfielder Guelor Kanga from the national team’s training camp in France because of his indecent gesture.
Kanga who made his Gabon debut in 2012, is one of the experienced players in the Panthers’ selection and was caught to be accommodating his brother and the wife in the team’s camp.
The action was against head coach Thierry Mouyouma’s laid down rules and the 33-year-old was consequently sent home to establish discipline in the team.
A statement from FEGAFOOT read: “Guelor Kanga was caught by the national team’s security manager while he was lodging his brother who was accompanied by his wife in the same hotel as the Panthers. An action judged incompatible by the technical staff that wants to mark a break with old habits.
“Therefore, to ensure a healthy environment, the technical staff have asked the player to join his club and will not be able to take part in the two friendlies scheduled in France.”
Gabon are training in Oise, the northern part of France and they will face 2019 Africa Cup of Nations champions, Senegal in Amiens on Friday after which they host Congo at the Stade des Marais in Oise on Monday, March 25.
Kanga and Controversies
Guelor Kanga was a subject of age falsification controversy in the Gabonese national team a few years ago.
In April 2021, the DR Congo Football Federation (FECOFA) accused the midfielder of falsifying his age and his nationality.
FECOFA claimed that the 33-year-old was born in Congo and he is four years older than the Gabonese birth certificate he uses but CAF dismissed the case in 2021.
Kanga is also a Serbian citizen after acquiring the European country’s citizenship in December 2021.
