Nigeria have dropped to the 40th position in the latest FIFA World Ranking released for the month of March and the first in 2023.
The Super Eagles recorded a win and a loss in the two 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches they played in the last international break.
Nigeria are now the sixth-best football country in Africa, with Morocco holding the top spot after a 2-1 win over Brazil in March.
The Atlas Lions are followed closely by 2021 AFCON champions Senegal in second place, while Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt occupy the third, fourth and fifth spots respectively.
Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Mali complete the top 10 ranking for Africa as Ghana dropped to 11th.
In the global standings, 2022 FIFA World Cup champions Argentina maintain their lead as the best football country. 2022 World Cup runners-up France are second, followed by Brazil in third, Belgium in fourth and England in the fifth position.
The next FIFA world ranking will be released after the international break in June, with Nigeria’s Super Eagles scheduled to play Sierra Leone in their next 2023 AFCON qualifiers in Freetown on June 12.
